Artist Bio

Jennifer Greenburg is a contemporary artist who works with photographic imagery. She holds an MFA from the University of Chicago and a BFA from the School of the Art Institute. Solo shows of her work have been held at The Print Center, Philadelphia, and The Hyde Park Art Center, Chicago. Group shows include The Museum of Contemporary Photography at 40. She was an artist-in-residence at Light Work, Syracuse, in 2005 and is a recipient of two Illinois Arts Council Grants.

Her work is part of the permanent collections of The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Museum of Fine Arts Houston, The CherryHurst House, The Museum of Contemporary Art Tucson, The Museum of Contemporary Photography, The Museum of Photographic Arts, Light Work, The Santa Barbara Museum of Art, and the National Gallery of Ontario. Greenburg held a CherryHurst House Fellowship at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston in 2022. Images from her series "Constructed Portraits" are included in the Pacific Standard Time exhibition "Digital Witness: Revolutions in Design, Photography, and Film" at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Greenburg's practice extends into immersive media and therapeutic design. She is co-inventor of a U.S. patented immersive media chair developed in collaboration with a developmental pediatrician at Thomas Jefferson University, where she currently serves as Program Director at the Center for Autism and Neurodiversity.

Teaching & Speaking

Jennifer Greenburg is highly skilled in curriculum development, degree formation, teaching, and learning assessment. Greenburg specializes in developing teaching materials to assist neurodivergent learners and in teaching technology using accessible and inclusive strategies. Greenburg served as the Photography Program Director and Associate Professor at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia until June 2024, when the university announced an unprecedented immediate closure. Prior to that appointment, Jennifer Greenburg was a tenured Associate Professor of Fine Art at Indiana University Northwest.

Greenburg has been invited to speak about her work and to hold workshops around the globe. In addition to speaking on the topic of her visual works, Greenburg has also given talks on using new tools like AI in the making of art, cultural appropriation in photography, the meaning of images, and the role photographs play in our decision-making in the era of social media.
